Introduction

The Dartfish Publisher processes jobs one by one it its queue and then add them to the history

  • A job is a publishing and/or conversion task, that includes information such as the destination folder or TV channel, the type of publishing and the metadata associated (keywords, video title, etc...). One job is created for each resulting video. Jobs can have the following status
    • Pending: the job is in the queue, waiting to be processed
    • Converting: the conversion phase is in progress. The videos and medias associated are being created. This does not require an internet connection
    • Publishing: the video and associated media are being uploaded on dartfish.tv. This requires an internet connection
    • Ready: the job has been successfully processed. Double-click on the job to open the video
  • The queue is the list of jobs that the Dartfish Publisher has to process. The jobs in the queue can be deleted, but they can not be re-ordered
  • The history includes all past jobs that have been processed successfully. Those jobs are always listed by default. To remove them, click on Clear History

Create a job from Dartfish software

The conversion and publishing of videos from Dartfish software are automatically managed by the Dartfish Publisher.

  • In Dartfish software click on one of the many Export & Share options (Share from tray, Share Montage, Share Events, etc..)
  • A wizard will open with the different options available for that type of Export & Share feature
  • Select the publishing type, destination folder or channel, video names and keywords and other available options
  • At the end of the wizard, a message indicates that the job has been sent to the Dartfish Publisher. You can then close the  wizard and continue working on Dartfish software
  • Open the Dartfish Publisher to monitor the status of your job. The Dartfish Publisher can be opened from the software at any time from the menu bar by clicking on Tools > Open Dartfish Publisher
All publishing tasks are send to the Dartfish Publisher except the following: Export Video from the event pane, Export Events from the event pane, create a SimulCam and a StroMotion effect or Export Stillshots of a Montage

Create a job from the Dartfish Publisher

The tab New Job in the Dartfish Publisher allows to publish a document directly from there

  • Open the New Job tab
  • Drag&drop a video, a Notebook or a Storyboard file in the empty space below
    • You can add several videos simultaneously. Those videos can then be merged during the publishing, or published as separate documents
    • it is also possible to add several Storyboard at the same time, but those will be published as separate documents. They can't be merged
  • Click on Export & Share and follow the instructions in the wizard

Pause and Resume the Dartfish Publisher

The Dartfish Publisher has three different modes

  • Convert and Publish: this is the usual mode. Jobs are processed until the queue is empty
  • Convert Only: in this mode, the Publisher processes all the jobs through the conversion phase, but it doesn't start the publishing. This can be useful to save time when travelling or when internet access is not guaranteed. All the conversion tasks can already be performed, and once internet can be accessed again, only the publishing part remains
  • Pause Jobs: in this state the Dartfish Publisher does not process any job. That can save the computer resources or internet connection for other applications

Closing the Dartfish Publisher and shutting down the computer

When the Dartfish Publisher is running and processing jobs, clicking on the "X" button to close it will simply collapse it. The Publisher will continue working in the background. To close it, open the hidden icon menu in the Windows Task bar (on the right of the Task Bar, next to the battery and network information and find the Dartfish Publisher icon. Right-click on it and select "Quit Dartfish Publisher"

The computer can be shut down at any time while the Dartfish Publisher is running. The queue will be saved. If a job is being processed, this job will be stopped and restarted when the Dartfish Publisher is started again.

Errors and failed jobs

If a job has failed, its status will change to Error. There may be several reasons that can cause an error. Check your internet connection and click on "Retry Failed" to reprocess the failed job.

If the issue still happens, right-click on the job and click on Generate Error Report. This creates a .zip file on your desktop. Open a support case on www.support.dartfish.tv and add this error report and a description of the issue to the case
